Craft Suggestions For Women

Let girls use stickers and beads to pretty up their craft projects.

There are many imaginative and creative crafts projects for girls, no matter what their interests. A few quick and easy craft projects girls might enjoy are personalized head bands, windowsill potpourri jars, outdoor cobweb swatters, creating designs on their clothes and making friendship bracelets.

Personalized Headbands

Create a personalized headband to match an outfit or school colors with store bought plastic headbands and vinyl tape. Plastic headbands can generally be purchased at stores that carry hair products and hair supplies. Additionally, colored vinyl tape, used for coding files and tools or for decorative striping, can be found online or at stores with craft or office supply departments. Wrap the tape which comes in one inch strips around the headband, beginning at one end of the headband. Continue wrapping with contrasting strips or use one color or several colors to finish the headband. Be sure the sticky side of the tape is not sticking up anywhere and that the tape edges are concealed on the underside of the headband.

Windowsill Potpourri Jars

Purchase pint or quart canning jars, a lace doily, rubber bands, ribbons and potpourri either online or at stores that carry kitchen and craft supplies. Assemble a potpourri jar by filling the jar with potpourri. Cover the jar opening with a lace doily and use the rubber band to hold the doily on the jar. Conceal the rubber band with decorative ribbons. Place the jar in a sunny window and enjoy the fragrance. Refresh or change the scent by occasionally replacing the potpourri in the jar.

Decorate Clothes

Take a plain bag, pair of shoes or t-shirt and decorate with fabric markers and paint pens purchased at craft stores. Create a design either directly on the fabric or draw an example template on paper first. Add embellishments such as beads, ribbons, buttons or bows with glue or sew them on to the canvas. Experiment with colors and design placement before gluing.

Outdoor Cobweb Swatter

Stuff a garden glove with stuffing material and attach to the end of a broomstick or hiking stick. The glove can be attached with a rubber band, rope or twine or glued in place. Depending on the age of the girl, decorate the stick with paints or markers.

Traditional Friendship Bracelets

Cut three six foot long pieces of embroidery thread, floss or yarn. Fold the thread pieces in half and tie a knot in the middle. This will create six strands. Tape the knot onto a solid surface. Starting with the farthest thread to the left; tie a double knot with each string individually going across to the right. Repeat this process of knot tying with each subsequent string until the bracelet will fit around a wrist. Tie one final knot on the end to finish the piece. Give to a friend.
