Homemade Hair Add-ons

Homemade hair accessories

If you enjoy putting accessories in your hair, you may find it can get costly to purchase them. There are several different hair accessories you can learn to make yourself. Making your own hair accessories will save you money and allow you to have your own original hair clips, bows and other decorative items.

Hair clips

Make original hair clips using felt. This is a great way to be creative by choosing your colors and embellishments. Go to a fabric store and pick out several different colors of felt. You can cut the felt into different shapes or use stencils to trace on the felt. Cut the felt out and hot glue it to snap clips. You can add buttons or plastic flowers to the felt to add extra embellishment.

Beaded Bobby pins

This is an easy and inexpensive way to add some sparkle to your bobby pins. All you need to create your own hair ornaments is beads in different colors and shapes, wire, wire cutters or nail clippers and bobby pins. Place a 20-inch wire through the bend of the bobby pin and cross the two ends over each other. Cut the ends so that they are even. Thread a bead onto both wires and cross the two ends again. Add another bead and do the same until you have beaded your bobby pin (beading until you get to the rubber end). You also can buy kits at most craft stores that include everything you need.

Bows

Take plain bows and add your own embellishments. For instance, take a red bow and add plastic lady bugs to it. Add rhinestones to give sparkle to your bows. You also can add the sticky rhinestones to a bow and put initials or names on the bow to make them more personalized. Any craft or fabric store will have different charms and ornaments you can put on ready-made bows to make them more unusual.
