Decoration Suggestions For A Camothemed Wedding

Hiding in plain sight: the perfect camouflage wedding

Unusual wedding themes require ingenuity to find the perfect decorations. A camouflage wedding certainly falls into the unconventional category, but with camouflage no longer recognized solely as a military or hunting textile, the possibilities for creativity abound. While the availability of camouflage wedding items may increase each fashion season, finding the perfect décor to express the bride and groom's exclusive style warrants innovative uses of the camouflage materials available in other markets.

Pre-Fabricated Camouflage Décor

In addition to tuxedos and cummerbunds for the groomsmen and bridesmaid's dresses or even camouflage-trimmed wedding gowns, accessories such as ring bearer pillows, photo albums and camouflage-covered guest books are available through online and specialty bridal shops.

Quick and Easy Retail Camouflage

Leafy centerpieces complete the theme.

Party shops and specialty retail outlets carry many camouflage-themed items for easy design.

Table settings: paper dishware, paper or plastic or fabric tablecloths. More upscale items include glazed stoneware dishes and metal flatware.

Centerpieces: Fold camouflage-patterned scrapbook paper into origami animals, or use weighted camouflage gift bags filled with leafy branches. Solid-color ribbon bows in the dominant colors make excellent trim for floral arrangements.

Stationery: Camouflage business card blanks make perfect place cards. In addition, camouflage-patterned stationery, envelopes and letterhead transition easily into more formal wedding announcements with the addition of tissue and calligraphy.

Design Your Own

Leafy cake decorations

For the cake, leafy fondant cutouts in the camouflage colors will carry the theme, and try stacking the cake layers on pillars wrapped in camouflage ribbon. Or, use ivy or leaves to decorate the cake.

Use camouflage spray paint and leaf stencils to turn basic tulle into delicate camouflage netting. Drape and tie the netting into puffy bows along the aisle ways and over arches.

Or, create a subtle camouflage pattern on a backdrop, stenciling the bride's and groom's names among the leafy pattern.

And don't forget the party favors: Wrap mixed birdseed in camouflage-printed tulle and tie with a wired velvet leaf.

Nothing Like the Real Thing

Use buckshot cases for party favors.

Repurposing hunter or military camouflage items into wedding décor requires innovation, providing endless opportunities to create a distinctive look.

Wrap candles or candleholders with camouflage duct tape or cloth tape. Some camo tapes even have three-dimensional leaves that flutter in the breeze, adding a subtle woodsy feel to the occasion.

Heavy-duty netting---normally used to create hunting blinds---works well as protective shading draped over arbors for outdoor ceremonies. Like the tapes, some netting has a three-dimensional aspect.

For the true hunters, empty buckshot cases filled with mints and trimmed in camouflage ribbon are interesting options.

Tips

Match your patterns.

Choose a single camouflage pattern or color group and stick with it as a closely as possible to develop a cohesive feel. In addition to the military patterns, modern hunting patterns are somewhat standardized by tree or grass pattern. Mixing patterns detracts from the overall design.
