Babies often don't have much hair, so putting a bow in a little girl's hair can be impossible. That's why there are headband bows. Newborn headband bows help distinguish a boy from a girl when they are very young or dressed in neutral colors. These are easy and fun to make. Create a couple to match her different outfits or make them for baby showers and gifts.
Instructions
1. Wrap a measuring tape around the newborn's head and take the measurement. Choose a decorative stretch lace that is relatively soft to the touch and cute. The width of the lace should be between 1/2-inch to 1-inch.
2. Cut a piece of stretch lace to the exact measurement you measured in the previous step. Thread your sewing machine with a matching cotton thread. Sew the two ends of the stretch lace together and tie off the ends. Make sure to trim off any excess thread.
3. Find an organza ribbon that either matches the stretch lace color or coordinates well with it. The best width for this ribbon is 1/2-inch. Measure and cut a 5-inch long piece.
4. Tie the organza ribbon into a simple bow. You can do a more complicated bow if you please, but a simple shoelace tie bow is all that is necessary.
5. Thread your needle with a matching thread and hand sew the ribbon bow onto the headband. Make sure you sew through the center of the knot to ensure it stays tied and secure on the headband.
