Make Korker Hairbows

You can make Korker bows from any kind and color of fabric ribbon.

Korker hair bows are simple to make and work well as an accessory for younger girls. Made from curlicue shaped ribbons, bows that are made at home can be matched to different outfits or for different occasions. For example, create a birthday bow in the birthday girl's favorite colors or a Fourth of July bow in red, white and blue. Because of the low expense of the project and the fact that several can be made at one time, korker bows also make good additions to gift baskets.

Instructions

1. Load your glue gun and plug it in to prepare for later use. Cut your ribbons into 5-inch lengths.

2. Use a clothes pin to attach one end of one length of ribbon to the dowel. Wrap the rest of the ribbon around the dowel and attach the other end with a clothes pin. Do not let the ribbon touch itself as its wrapped around the dowel. This is how you will get the corkscrew shape in your ribbon.

3. Spray the spray-on starch on to every part of the ribbon wrapped around the dowel. This is how it will retain its shape. Let dry for five to 10 minutes. Release the clothes pins and set the ribbon aside. Repeat with all of your ribbons.

4. Measure out 2.5-inch lengths of your "corked" ribbon and cut it. One hairbow takes approximately 30 of these 2.5-inch corked ribbons. When you've cut enough of them, lay them all closely together and wrap the thin elastic around the center.

5. Squeeze a few drops of hot glue on the center of your barrette and attach your corked ribbon cluster to it. Make sure you are attaching the center of the cluster to the center of the barrette. Press the ribbons and the barrette together for one minute and lay aside to let dry for a couple of hours.
