Select a color of ribbon to complement your event.
Pew bows can add elegance to any celebration. The moment the church doors open your guests will be greeted down the aisle and welcomed into their pew. By selecting the appropriate color and material of ribbon, the pew bows can enhance the theme of the celebration. Ribbon comes in several widths and various types of material. Determine what size pew bows you want and purchase the width of the ribbon based on that. The wider the ribbon, the larger the bow will be, although a one-foot-wide pew bow is a good place to start.
Instructions
1. Select a color of ribbon to complement your event. Purchase floral wire that is the same color as your ribbon or as close to it as possible.
2. Create a one-foot-wide pew bow by using three-inch-wide ribbon. Dimensions do not need to be exact, so rather than cutting the ribbon, leave it on the spool. Pull about three yards loose and lay it on the table. Before you begin making the pew bow, cut a four-inch piece of floral wire.
3. Hold ribbon in one hand leaving a one-foot tail. Using the other hand create a six-inch loop using one foot of ribbon. Holding the loop together, pinch and twist the ribbon. Create the next loop in the opposite direction. Repeat this process creating six large loops.
4. Holding on to the bow with the six large loops, create four three-inch loops on top of the bow using six inches of ribbon for each loop. Pinch and twist each loop in opposite directions.
5. Holding on to the bow with one hand, twist the piece of floral wire around where your fingers are. The excess wire should be facing the back of the bow and will suffice as a hook to hang it on the pew. Cut the bow free from the roll of ribbon, leaving a one-foot-long tail.
6. Fluff the ribbon loops out gently to create a full pew bow. You can carefully manipulate their direction so that the bow is somewhat circular and balanced.
7. Trim the tails of the bow at an angle.
8. Attach pew bows using the backside of the wire you used to tie the bow. Check with the church to see if there is a preference as to how pew bows are attached to their pews. The church may have pew hooks that you can use to hang the bows on. If not you can purchase them at a local craft shop.
