Make Hair Clips With Corkscrew Laces and ribbons

Make Hair Clips With Corkscrew Ribbons

Design hair clips with corkscrew ribbons to match your daughter's outfits. This is an easy and inexpensive do-it-yourself project. Check the discount bins at your local craft or fabric store and pick up a couple of spools of complementary ribbon. Invest in wooden dowels and reuse or share various sizes of wooden dowels with crafty friends. Making hair clips with corkscrew ribbons is an easy afternoon activity to share with the family.

Instructions

1. Collect material for the hair clips. Look around your house for items you may already have, such as binder clips, thread and a hot glue gun. Buy 1/4-inch ribbon in selected colors, 1/4-inch wooden dowels and metal hair clips. For a medium-full bow, you will need six wooden dowels.

2. Secure one end of the ribbon to the wooden dowel using a binder clip. Twist the ribbon around the wooden dowel. Fasten the ribbon with another binder clip to keep it in place. Put the wrapped wooded dowels on a cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes at 250 degrees F. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool completely. Carefully remove the binder clips and unwrap the ribbon.

3. Secure the bow. Mix the various colors of ribbon and grab into a bundle. Cut a piece of thread, 12-inches long. Place the thread in the center of the bundled ribbon. Tie a knot to hold the ribbons together. Wrap the thread around the ribbon and tie a second knot.

4. Fasten the ribbon to the metal clip. Plug in the glue gun, and wait for it to be ready. Center the ribbons and metal hair clip. Put a small dab of glue on the ribbons and affix the metal clip. Hold the ribbons and metal clip until the glue is dry.

5. Tidy up the hair clip. After the glue dries, trim frayed or uneven ribbon edges. Cut long ribbons or any that stick out oddly from the bow. Hold acrylic ribbon edges near an open flame until the end melts slightly. This seals the edges and prevents future fraying.
