Awesome Anime Hair styles

Long pigtails serve as a popular anime hairstyle.

Though many anime characters wear their hair in ordinary hairstyles, others wear their hair in intricate, brightly colored hairstyles. Because of the similarity in the faces and bodies of most anime characters, they may need unique hair for proper identification. Though you can replicate many awesome anime hairstyles on an average human, other hairstyles defy the laws of physics.

Long and Flowing

Though many people in real life have long, flowing hair, they cannot compare to anime hair with the same style. Typically found on female character, long, flowing hair seems to glide and sway whenever a character moves. The hair is often so wide it encompasses the body and may serve as a weapon during fight scenes. Long hair often reaches the bottom of the hips or the mid-thigh. Hair may be straight or wavy and may include bangs. Typically, male characters with long, flowing hair have hair that reaches just above the waist but there are no hard and fast rules. Characters with long hair include Yuri Lowell from "Tales of Vespia" and Tohru Honda from "Fruits Basket."

Spikes

Hair spikes shoot up from the head of an anime character as if held in place by magical hair gel. Some spikes fall towards the back of the head, creating a curve, while others shoot up or sideways. For example, the Yugi character in "Yu-Gi-Oh!" has extreme spiked hair. Seven triangular spikes shoot from his head and are tempered by six bangs that shoot like spikes in front of his face.

Pigtails and Buns

Though they appear average on most people, the pigtails found on anime characters are often extraordinary when it comes to their length and thickness. Like long, flowing hair, pigtails bounce and twist whenever a character moves. These pigtails typically have their base at the top of the head and flow to the waist. Though many characters have thick, full pigtails, others have thinner pigtails. The character Sailor Moon was famous for her long, thin pigtails. Her pigtails were topped with anime buns. These buns typically serve as an alternative to pigtails and sit at the top of the head. They look like a cross between a typical bun and a single, spinning light atop an emergency vehicle, and may be extremely thick.

Inexplicable Updos

Though it is not the norm, some anime characters have hair that defies gravity in an inexplicable up-do. This includes hair folded into a bow, hair that shoots straight into the sky, and complex combinations of knots, hair strands and ribbons. Other characters have more conventional up-dos, such as buns, headbands or braids that attach to the scalp.

Colors and Accesories

Many times, an otherwise average hairstyle becomes awesome because it is an unnatural hue. Anime characters often have pink, blue, green, silver, purple or bright red hair. Some characters have two-toned hair. Popular accessories include bows, ribbons, hats, headbands and flowers. Many times, ribbons hold a bow, ponytail or pigtail in place. These bows are often brightly colored and long.
