Grosgrain ribbon tied in a simple bow.
Grosgrain is a ribbed type of ribbon that comes in various widths, colors and patterns. Easy to work with and inexpensive, grosgrain is a common type of ribbon for making bows and hair accessories. With so many styles available, including polka dots and animal prints, grosgrain has a little something to suit almost every taste.
Instructions
1. Cut both a long strand of 1-inch wide grosgrain ribbon and 8 inches of 26 gauge craft wire. Finish one end of the ribbon by creating a shallow slant cut and hot sealing with a lighter to prevent raveling.
2. Form a loop on one end of the ribbon and bind it by wrapping with craft wire, leaving a long tail of wire for continued wrapping. Form another loop on the opposite side and bring the wire around once more.
3. Continue forming loops and binding with wire, alternating sides and setting each new loop a bit off center to create a fan shape. Once symmetrical, wrap the wire around the center 2 or 3 more times and snip any excess. Trim the tail even with the first and hot seal.
4. Cut 2 inches of 3/8 inch grosgrain ribbon, and attach one end to the bottom of the ribbon with hot glue. Wrap the ribbon around the center once to hide the wire and affix the other end, snipping any excess ribbon. Attach the bow to a barrette or headband to wear.
