Create A Bow From Balloons

Ordinary balloons are transformed into whimsical hair accessories.

Balloons aren't just for parties. They have a plethora of uses that include that of fashion accessory. With just half an hour of your time you can create a balloon bow that your little girl will be proud to wear. This project is simple enough that even the smallest hands can help with the construction of these hair pieces. Make them in different colors to match various holidays and seasons or combine several colors in one bow.

Instructions

1. Use cotton balls to fill the balloons.

Pull seven water balloons of the same color from a bag of balloons. Stuff each of them with a single cotton ball, using a crocheting needle to push them through. Form an oval with the balloons by rolling them on your work surface or between your palms.

2. Tie each of the balloons closed. After all of the balloons are knotted, tie a single pair together. Tie another balloon to the pair. One by one, add another balloon until all of the balloons are tied together. Set them aside.

3. Choose a single water balloon in a complementary color and stuff with a cotton ball. Press it flat until you've formed a circle and tie closed.

4. Press the seven balloons flat on the table, securing the center with your finger. Adjust the balloons so they form the shape of a flower. Insert the circle balloon into the center with your other hand and pull the knot through to the back side of the flower, tying it to one of the petal ends on the back side.

5. Cut a circle of felt about the same diameter as a quarter. Cut a small square of felt that fits on the circle without overlapping. Sew opposite sides of the square to the circle. Hot glue the circle side of the felt to the back of the balloon flower.

6. Slip a headband through the slot in the felt square. You can also slide a bobby pin or hair tie through the slot to complete your retro balloon bow.
