Decorate your pumpkin by giving it hair and a face.
With the fall season comes the decorating of pumpkins. Pumpkin faces can be carved, painted on or created using various craft supplies. Once your pumpkin has a face, you can give it some hair. The items you'll use to make the hair depends on the look you are going for.
Instructions
1. Cut a rectangle out of a foam sheet that has a sticky backing. The foam sheet must not be wider than the width of the pumpkin's face. The rectangle's length depends on how long you want the hair to be, but a good standard is to make the rectangle twice as long as it is wide. Hold the rectangle legthwise and cut slits down from the top of the rectangle to form strands of hair. Remove a 1-inch strip of the sticky backing from the bottom of the foam rectangle (the side opposite the slits) and press the bottom of the rectangle up against the top front of the pumpkin. The hair will spike up on top of the pumpkin's head.
2. Link several paper clips together to form a strand of hair. Use six to eight paper clips if you want your pumpkin to have long hair. Use three to five paper clips for short hair. Create at least eight to ten paper clip strands. Cover the first paper clip of each strand with glue from a hot glue gun and press it on the top of the pumpkin's "scalp" area. When the glue dries, the rest of the paper clips will flow like hair.
3. Glue fennel tops or cooked spaghetti strands that have cooled to the pumpkin's "scalp." You can trim them first to make the hair shorter. You can also layer the fennel tops or spaghetti strands to achieve a bushier hairstyle.
4. Glue yarn to the top of the pumpkin. Use darker and lighter shades of yarn to create highlighted hair. You can also glue on different lengths of yarn to achieve a layered look.
