It's usually not hard to guess the music and subculture scene people are affiliated with based on their fashion sense. Different scenes have different fashion trends that change depending on the type of music people listen to, the era, and from city to city. The way people carry themselves and interact with fellow "scenesters" also differs from scene to scene. It's important to have your own style, but there are a number of ways you can make yourself fit in at concerts.

1. Research the fashion trends of the scene you are interested in. Use fashion blogs and online magazines to keep up with current looks. Do field research by going to concerts and studying the scene fashions.
2. Shop online or in your city for popular scene clothes. If you're attending an indie rock show, shop at vintage stores for checked shirts, boots, frocks and other items. Wear tight jeans and emo band T-shirts if you are going for an emo look, or black jeans, hooded sweatshirts with metal band logos or even a leather jacket if you're attending a heavy-metal concert.
3. Get the right haircut. Punks often have dyed, spiked hair or mohawks, while a heavy-metal fan grows his hair long or sports a crew cut. If you're male and interested in indie or alt-country music, you have the option of growing a mustache or beard. Girls at emo concerts often have long, black, teased hair accented with a bow or bandana.
4. Accessorize your look. Certain styles of sunglasses and scarfs are worn by indie scenesters. Pins, badges, chains and studded bracelets are typical punk accessories. Piercings, tattoos and other extreme fashions are part of many scenes, including punk, emo, indie and metal.
5. Take the right type of transportation to the concert. Ride a fixed-gear bike to an indie show or a skateboard to a pop-punk concert. Create a holistic scene persona by going beyond simply wearing the right clothes.
6. Emulate the attitudes and personalities of scenesters. Be outgoing, anti-social, tough or nerdy depending on the prevailing personalities of the scene. Act like you know what's going on, even if you don't.
