Make Girly Hair Bows

Make Girly Hair Bows

Design hair bows for your daughter to wear during every season of the year. Creating colorful masterpieces provides the perfect accessory to holiday dresses or everyday play clothes. Fashioning stylish hair bows is an easy do-it-yourself project. Check the local craft store for good deals on ribbon and wooden dowels. Hair bows make excellent gifts or afternoon projects for the girls.

Instructions

1. Gather supplies and attach ribbon to wooden dowels. Purchase ¼-inch ribbon, ¼-inch wooden dowels and metal hair clips. Grab a few binder clips, glue gun and thread from around the house. Attach one end of the ribbon to the dowel using a binder clip. Wrap the ribbon around the wooden dowel and secure with a binder clip. Use six dowels for a medium full bow.

2. Place wooden dowels in the oven. Put wooden dowels on a cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes at 250 degrees. Take out of the oven and cool completely. Remove the binder clips and carefully unwrap the ribbon.

3. Use a piece of strong thread to secure the bow. Arrange the ribbon in a bundle, mixing the various colors of ribbon. Use a 12-inch piece of thread to ensure adequate length. Center the ribbon so the thread is in the center of the bundle. Tie a secure knot. Wrap the thread around and tie a second knot.

4. Attach the hair bow and metal clip. Align the hair bow and metal clip. Place a small dab of hot glue on the hair bow and attach the metal clip. Hold in place until the glue dries. Getting the alignment exact isn't necessary when making a full hair bow.

5. Clean up the bow. Trim frayed or uneven edges, after the glue is set. Cut the hair bow ribbon's to the desired length. Seal acrylic ribbon by holding cut edges near an open flame until the end melts slightly. This prevents fraying.
