Wedding Reception Ideas for Hunters
Weddings are becoming more personal and typically reflect the lifestyle and personalities of both the bride and groom. Incorporate items that relate to the passion for hunting the bride, groom or both have throughout the wedding reception in a way the complements the rest of the decorations. Focus completely on the hunting theme, or incorporate a couple of small details if you don't want the wedding to focus on hunting.
Location
Host the ceremony, reception or both in an old hunting lodge or in a clearing in the woods. Arrange to get married at or near your favorite hunting spot, especially if it's a shared passion. Placing candles all over the lodge will make it feel more romantic while celebrating the passion that either partner--or both--have for hunting.
Invitations
Keep the invitations traditional for a formal wedding or include a hunting aspect if your wedding will go more in that direction. An embossed motif of ducks, deer or your favorite game might work. Or use widely known lingo such as "happy hunting" or "the hunt is over" for more casual invitations. For example, "Hunting season is over because Danielle and Corey found each other."
Flowers
Use a lot of greenery in your flower arrangements with a touch of color through flowers. For example, insert a few flowers in white or orange colors to keep with the hunting theme. Think of fall colors--for the fall hunting season--and use burnt orange, hunter's orange or deep red shades of your favorite flower.
Decorations
Decorate with lanterns and candles (try battery operated candles for safety reasons) to create a rustic or romantic ambiance. Place candles on wooden plates and surround them with oak leaves. Tie a small camouflage ribbon around the base of the candles. Use different shades of green, chocolate brown and orange as the colors, but keep camouflage accessories to a minimum so you don't overwhelm your wedding guests or pictures. For example, use chocolate brown tablecloths with olive or white linen napkins. Tie bows around the chairs with material in hunter's camouflage.
Cake
Order a cake to be decorated in camouflage or made to look like moss with an antler cake topper. Or top the cake with a wooden heart cutout, two criss-crossed rifles and the words "gone hunting" with a bridal veil sticking to some rocks. If the bride and groom are avid hunters, consider a custom cake topper featuring their likeness decked out in hunting gear, only add a veil to the bride. Humorous cake toppers are available that depict a bride dragging the groom, who's wearing hunting gear. Or, to tone it down, have a traditional wedding cake coupled with a detailed groom's cake.
Accessories
Add small accessories throughout the wedding, such as camouflage ribbons in the bridesmaid's hair, a camo garter with a duck or deer charm or have the flower girl drop leaves rather than flowers. Use camouflage ribbon to tie favor bags and attach "thank you" cards. Offer chocolate candy in the shape of your favorite game or antlers.
