Butterfly hair bows are fashionable accessories for babies and young girls. Seen on stretchy headbands and hair clips in boutiques and craft shows, they are available in a variety of sizes and colors. Make antennae for your butterfly hair bow and give it a more authentic look. With a few steps and basic craft supplies, your butterfly will be ready to take flight and stand out from the rest.
Instructions
1. Select a ribbon that coordinates with your butterfly hair bow. Use narrow wired ribbon that is as wide as the body of the butterfly on your clip.
2. Cut a piece of ribbon that is 2 inches long.
3. Measure halfway down the ribbon and mark the center with a pin or fabric marker. Cut along the two edges of wire on one end of the ribbon, down to the center mark. Cut as close to the edge as possible without cutting into the stitches that encase the wire in the fabric of the ribbon. Fold the tab of ribbon up and then snip the tab off. This will create two wires extending from an inch of solid ribbon.
4. Attach the solid inch of ribbon to the back of the hair bow with fabric glue. Apply a drop or two to the bow and hold the ribbon in place until dry. Be sure the cut antenna portion of the ribbon is above the hair bow. If the length of ribbon is too long, trim to fit your hair bow.
5. Bend the wires outward to shape the antenna, then bend the wires into a curled shape.
