Coordinate dog bows with the colors of your outfit to make a fashion statement.
Whether grooming your long-haired dog or puppy in preparation for a dog show or accessorizing your dog to match your own attire, creating your own hair accessories can save you money while keeping your dog current with the latest fashion. With a few craft supplies and some limber fingers, you can construct tiny hair bows to match any color scheme.
Instructions
1. Cut a 7 1/2-inch-long piece of ribbon at an angle and heat-seal both ends by waving it over the flame of a candle or lighter for a moment to slightly melt, but not burn, the ribbon.
2. Bring the two ends of the ribbon together and cross one over the other approximately 1 1/2 inches from the ends to make an X. The ribbon should look like an awareness or support ribbon such as the pink ribbon used for breast cancer awareness.
3. Hold the ribbon X together with your fingers and use your other hand to press the loop section of the ribbon down to meet the X. Hold that section with your fingers as well and the bow should start to take shape.
4. Weave a straight pin through the ribbon layers to keep the bow shape while making the top knot. Tie a loose knot in the center of the remaining 2 1/2-inch-long piece of ribbon and place the knot over the center of the ribbon bow. Secure the top knot to the bow with a drop of hot glue, making sure not to glue the straight pin.
5. Turn the bow over, leaving the straight pin in, and wrap the ends of the top knot to the center of the back. Thread the small rubber band through one end of the top knot ribbon ends and secure the ribbon together with hot glue. Do not glue on top of the rubber band.
6. Remove the straight pin and fluff the bow loops and ends, and move the rubber band to the center of the bow's back. Spray the bow with a stiffener such as Stiffy Stuff and allow the bow to dry completely before wrapping the rubber band around the puppy's hair.
