Remove Lint From Velour Clothing

Velour clothing looks and feels luxurious; it mixes the appearance of velvet with the comfort of your favorite pair of sweats. It's machine washable and easy to care for, but it does have a tendency to attract lint. Luckily, it's easy to remove lint from velour clothing. Remove as much lint as possible before tossing your garment in the washing machine, then give it a quick touch-up after the garment is dry. Here are a couple ways to get the lint off your velour clothing.

Instructions

1. Go over the velour garment with a lint brush, using quick, firm strokes. Angle the brush so that your strokes go against the brush's nap, raising the fibers. The fibers on the brush will grab the lint and pull it off.

2. Roll a lint roller over your clothing. Lint rollers have layers of sticky sheets that will remove the lint from your clothing without leaving any residue. When the sticky sheet has gathered too much lint, dust or pet hair to be effective, simply peel it off and discard it. There will be another sheet beneath it.

3. Use a damp washcloth to wipe the lint off velour clothing in a pinch. Be careful, though---a washcloth can sometimes leave its own lint behind. Don't use a red washcloth on a white jacket, or a white washcloth on a black running suit.

4. Masking tape makes a great impromptu lint roller. Tear off a length of tape and wrap it backwards around its spool, taping one edge of the tape over the other. Roll the spool over your clothing to remove lint without damaging the fibers.

5. Avoid lint balls by putting your clothes in the dryer for 5 minutes before washing them. A couple minutes in the dryer will get rid of most of the hair, dust and loose fibers that turn into lint when soaked and agitated in a washing machine.
