Remove Pin Striping From Abs plastic

Pin striping stickers add a racy look to just about any car, truck or SUV. The stripes accentuate the horizontal lines on the vehicle, leading your eye from front to back in a flowing manner. Eventually, however, the stickers will discolor and start to peel. When this happens, you can either take the vehicle to a local body shop to have the pin striping replaced, or you can simply remove the stripes yourself. If you decide to do this yourself, expect to spend anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes on the job.

Instructions

1. Heat the leading edge of the pin stripe with a hair dryer. The hair dryer will loosen the adhesive that holds the stripe to the fiberglass, allowing you to remove it by hand.

2. Scrape the end of the leading edge of the pin stripe with a detailing razor until the edge raises enough for you to grasp it with your fingers.

3. Work your way down the pin stripe with the hair dryer, pulling on the stripe as you go until you've removed the entire stripe. Remove any leftover adhesive with acetone and a rag.

4. Apply a layer of auto wax over the area where the pin stripe was with a wax applicator or cotton cloth. The paint under the stripe did not have wax on it when the pin stripe was applied to the fiberglass, so it's important to protect the area as soon as you remove the stripe.
