A ribbon ponytail holder is a perfect accessory for a cheerleading outfit.
Cheerleader uniforms are normally standard issue items, given to members of the squad by the school or organization that sponsors the cheerleaders. But ponytail holders or other hair accessories are usually up to individual cheerleader and can be a real opportunity to personalize your outfit as well as show some extra school spirit. Making your own tie ribbon ponytail holder can be a relatively simple process and gives you the option of making things as simple or as elaborate as you choose.
Instructions
1. Choose ribbons in several widths in your school colors. You will want at least two ribbons and no more than four.
2. Measure a 14-inch piece of each ribbon, using a measuring tape or ruler. Cut each ribbon, with scissors, at the 14-inch mark.
3. Layer the ribbons in any order you choose. Place one ribbon on top of another and continue until you have a stack of ribbons. Line up the tops and bottoms. All the ribbons should be the same length.
4. Place the elastic ponytail holder in the center of the ribbon stack. You can use a measuring tape if you want to be exact or you can place it using your eye.
5. Fold the top and bottom of the ribbon stack up, bringing each side toward the other.
6. Tie a knot around the elastic ponytail holder with the ribbons. Make sure you pull both ends tightly until the knot is secure. If you feel the ribbons are not firmly in place, you can tie a second knot with the ribbons around the elastic ponytail holder.
