Make your own hair ties.
Elastic hair ties can help create a variety of hairstyles. You can wear them casually to help bring hair off of your face or you could even wear them to create a formal look. Many styles of elastic hair ties include woven rubber bands held together by a crimped piece of metal, elastic ribbons that Velcro together, or even elastic hair scrunchies. You can make your own hair ties with your own creative design to match your wardrobe and personal style preference.
Instructions
1. Use the measuring tape to measure 12 inches in length and 3 inches in width of cloth.
2. Pin the cloth with sewing pins to mark the position of the measurements. Cut out the cloth according to the marked measurements. It should measure 3 by 12 inches.
3. Fold the cloth in half horizontally so that it still measures 12 inches long, but the width is now reduced to 1.5 inches.
4. Sew the sides along the length together with the needle and thread. Do not sew the openings along the top and bottom yet.
5. Pull the cloth inside out to reduce the visibility of the stitching along the sides of the cloth.
6. Cut the elastic so that it measures 6 inches long.
7. Pull the elastic through one opening end of the cloth. Gently pull the cloth on both ends toward the middle until you see the elastic poking out each end of the cloth.
8. Sew both ends of the elastic together.
9. Gently pull the ends of the cloth over the remaining visible elastic. Sew the edges of the cloth together.
10. Stretch the elastic hair tie to test its elasticity and the strength of the stitching holding it together. You may now style your hair and wear the elastic hair tie.
