Decorate regular bottle caps to add pizazz to your hair bows.
Bottle caps are often used in the making of jewelry for their versatility. They are small and round and can be bent and distorted to the shape you need. Beer bottle caps are small enough to be worn as a pendant or a ring. Attach bottle caps to hair bows to adorn yourself and to add a quirky style to your outfits.
Instructions
1. Place the bottle caps down on a mat to prevent them from sliding away. Make sure the top is facing up and pound the bottle cap with a wide rubber mallet to flatten it slightly. Flattening the bottle cap is not necessary, but this makes it easier to glue the inside to the bow if you want the top to show.
2. Flare out the edges of a bottle cap by using a pair of pliers on the ridge of the cap. Pull the ridges slowly and apply the same amount of pressure all the way around.
3. Spray a coat of white spray primer on the bottle cap. The white primer makes it easier to paint a color without the original colors showing through. Paint the bottle cap with acrylic paints that will complement the color of the bow. Wait for the paint to dry completely.
4. Glue objects or an image on the inside of the bottle cap. Pour some clear acrylic resin into the bottle cap to protect and seal the image or objects. Wait about two or three days for the resin to finish curing. If you are just gluing the image on the flat side, brush a coat of clear enamel over it.
5. Attach the bottle cap to the middle of the bow with a dab of hot glue or a strong epoxy glue like E6000. Don't touch the hair bow for an hour or so. Make sure that it is dry and that your bottle cap bow is ready to be worn.
