Cosplay is the short name given to the practice of dressing up in costumes from popular culture, or costume play. Cosplay is especially significant in Japan, where adults and children dress up as famous characters from books, comics and television shows. Cosplay is also done in the United States as well. Many cosplay costumes are based on cartoon characters which have exaggerated outfits, including huge bows. You can easily make a large bow from stiff fabric that will match any bowed cosplay outfit.
Instructions
1. Cut a piece of fabric into a 30-inch square. Set aside the fabric scraps for now.
2. Fold the piece of fabric in half with the right side of the fabric facing inside the fold. Sew the fabric together along the open end (opposite the fold) with a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Turn the fabric right side out.
3. Arrange the seam of the tube so that the seam is in the middle of the tube rather than on one end. Iron the fabric in place.
4. Fold the tube in half to make a square shape. Sew along the raw edges using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Turn the bow inside out to hide the seam line.
5. Pull the fabric to place the seam line in the middle of the square. Iron the fabric in place. Make an accordion fold in the middle of the fabric, and iron it in place to make the piece resemble the shape of a bow.
6. Cut a four- by six-inch piece of fabric from the fabric scraps. Fold the fabric in half, and sew the edge opposite the fold with a 1/4-inch seam allowance to make a tube. Arrange the seam so it sits in the middle of the tube. Iron the seam in place.
7. Wrap the small fabric tube around the center of the large square which now resembles a bow. Slip a pony tail holder or a headband between the two ends of the small fabric tube. Sew the two ends of the fabric tube together around the pony tail holder or headband.
8. Arrange the sides of the bow to sit neatly inside the center ring before using the bow for a cosplay costume.
