Make Round Hair Bows

Making round hair bows requires a few basic supplies you probably have at home.

Hair bows are a popular fashion accessory for women and young girls. There are many variations of the standard hair bow, with the round hair bows as the traditional choice. These bows make the perfect fashion accessory for any ensemble, and you can create your own round hair bows right at home with a few basic supplies, whether you choose to keep them to wear yourself, give out as gifts, or sell.

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of ribbon 5 inches long; satin and velvet ribbon works best for a round hair bow. You can use any width of ribbon; the wider the ribbon, the larger the bow.

2. Lay the piece of ribbon flat on a table or other hard surface.

3. Mark the center of the ribbon. You can use a measuring tape and create a light mark with a pencil at the 5-inch point, or fold the ribbon in half and determine the center point this way.

4. Twist one end of the ribbon over and across itself to the center point, creating a loop shape on one side.

5. Repeat this on the opposite side of the ribbon. You should now have a sort of "figure 8" shape; secure the ends together in place with a pin.

6. Thread a needle, using a color of thread as close to the color of ribbon as possible, and sew the center of the ribbon to secure. Remove the pin once you have made a few stitches, and sew the rest of the way across the center point.

7. Line an alligator clip with a piece of ribbon--the length of ribbon depends on the size of the clip--by gluing it onto the clip using fabric glue or a hot glue gun. The fabric should span from the underside of the clip across the back, over the top and underneath the top prong of the clip. This creates a lining for the clip and gives you a means of securing the hair bow to it.

8. Glue the lined alligator clip and hair bow together with fabric glue or a hot glue gun. Hold the hair bow to the clip with your hand for a few minutes to give it time to adhere securely, and repeat this process to make the desired number of hair bows.
