Ribbon sculptures are made by shaping and molding your ribbon to create flowers, characters or animals for hair clips. Sculpted ribbon designs are an inexpensive way to personalize your little girl's hair accessories. Ribbon and hot glue is all you need to make most sculpted ribbon designs. Ribbon sculpture clips can be made to fit newborn babies up to adults. Custom make ribbon designs to fit holidays, favorite animals, shapes or even just to sell as a hobby.
Instructions
1. Cut a 3-inch and a 4-inch piece of red ribbon with black polka dots. Use the lighter along the cut edges of ribbon to prevent them from fraying. Cross the ends together forming a loop and glue or sew them together. You will have two tear drop shapes. Place a small loop inside the large loop and glue the tips together. Add a small 1-inch strip of black ribbon across the tips. Cut two very thin strips of black ribbon to be the antennae and glue them on the edge of a ribbon-lined clip. Glue the ladybug ribbon sculpture onto the clip, lining it up with the antennae.
2. Cut a 4 1/2-inch strip, 3 1/2-inch strip and a 1 1/2-inch strip of ribbon. Glue the 4 1/2-inch strip along your clip to line it. Take the 3 1/2-inch strip and fold the ends under. Glue them together in the middle to create a double loop. Glue your double loop piece onto the clip, making sure it's centered. Add glue to the 1 1/2-inch strip of ribbon and wrap it around the double loop in the middle on the top part of the clip. You have a mini bow hair clip.
3. Cut four short strips of ribbon of any color. Roll up the ribbons into small rolls. Use a dab of hot glue to secure them. They should all be the same size. Line an alligator clip with ribbon and hot glue. Glue the small ribbon rolls together in a row on the lined clip. Cut two thin strips of ribbon for antennae. Glue them between the first and second rolls of ribbon. Use puff paint to make eyes or glue on plastic eyes. These make small caterpillar clips.
4. Cut a 17-inch strip of ribbon. Seal the cut ends with the lighter. Form a figure eight and slide the bobby pin across the loose ends to hold them in place. Continue wrapping the ribbon around until the edges are overlapping, forming a large loop of ribbon. There will be no gaps in the ribbon. Glue the back of the ribbon strands to secure them all together. This can be a head for an animal or character. Create small triangles for cat ears or make floppy bunny ears. Add puff paint to make a face.
