Dress up a ponytail when you make hair accessories for little girls.
Little girls love to have hair accessories to match all of their outfits, but purchasing those hair accessories from retailers can become pricey. Instead, try making hair accessories for little girls using a little felt and some imagination. You can create custom hair accessories in no time, and save yourself a lot of money in the process.
Instructions
1. Cut basic shapes out of felt fabric. Try flowers, butterflies, circles or teardrop shapes. Remember that the larger you cut the shapes the larger the hair accessory will be, so keep these fairly small; a few inches in diameter at the most.
2. Layer two pieces of felt on top of one another and sew with an embroidery needle and thread. Use coordinating thread colors for contrasting stitching. Sew three little circles onto a rectangle or add a round center to a flower cutout this way.
3. Embellish your pieces by stitching on embroidery patterns or sewing buttons to the felt.
4. Attach the felt pieces to a hair accessory. For a clip or barrette, sew the felt directly onto the accessory at the widest end. You may also find a dab or two of craft glue is all you need to hold it in place. For a ponytail, sew the center of the felt onto the holder, wrapping the thread through the felt and around the ponytail several times to secure it in place.
