Many men are familiar with tie a traditional necktie and some even know properly knot a bow tie. The pocket square, however, remains a mystery for many men, even the most fashionable. Knowing properly fold one can help you add a splash of panache to your sartorial choices. A properly folded pocket square can accentuate a suit and make the whole outfit pop, as well as showing a dash of sophistication that is sure to impress.
Instructions
1. Lay your pocket square on a flat surface and remember that the purpose of this fold is to create a pocket square that just peaks above your breast pocket, allowing it to show evenly across the top of the pocket. Make sure that the square is placed squarely in front of you.
2. Fold the square in half by bringing the right side over to the left side. This should leave the square in a rectangular shape.
3. Fold the rectangle up as if you are attempting to create a square again. Do not bring the bottom side of the rectangle all the way up though. Leave a small gap between the bottom and top side so as to make a slightly elongated square.
4. Make sure that the pocket square's uneven edge is located on the opposing side of the square from you. Fold the square into thirds vertically.
5. Gently place the pocket square into your suit or sport coat's breast pocket. It may be necessary to make slight adjustments to its width or height to achieve the desired result, but only minor tweaking should be needed.
