Your little girl announces she wants Crocs for her birthday. You already have them wrapped and waiting for her party tomorrow. Then, she gleefully proclaims that she can't wait to decorate them--but you passed on the Disney princess charms. The stores are closed and you need an alternative so she can start her decorating fun as soon as she opens her present. If you have some basic craft materials in your house, your princess will be happily decorating her new Crocs without any need for you to run out at the last minute to save the day.
Decorating Options
Glitter is a big hit with most little girls. If you have any left over from a craft project, now is the time to repurpose it. Beads and sequins, with the help of a little fabric glue, are perfect for a glittery, bejeweled princess theme. Yarn is great for edging Crocs; it provides a finished look and gives you the chance to start teaching your daughter a little about embroidery and a lot about patience. You may need to add holes near the edges of the Crocs, which you can do with a standard hole puncher.
Little girls also loves bows, which you can make from any ribbon you have lying around. Take all those spare, specialty buttons that come attached to clothing tags, and which you've saved long after the garment is gone, and use them to attach the bows (you'll need some flat buttons a little bigger than the holes on the Crocs). After your daughter makes some bows, help her sew a spare button onto the underside of each. Then, just turn and push the button through a hole in the Crocs to anchor the bow in place. Constant wear and tear can be hard on regular thread, so use nylon thread to prevent the bows from falling off too soon. If you have any particularly pretty or unusual buttons in your collection, they can work as decorations themselves. Attach them the same way as the bows, using a second flat button as the anchor.
Personalized and decorated Crocs would not be complete without at least a little paint. Using an alcohol-based paint and a paintbrush, your daughter can add a contrasting color on the rims of her Crocs, creating frames for her "Crocs art." If she accidentally gets paint where she doesn't want it, she can remove it by rubbing those areas of her Crocs with a scouring pad.
Wearing the Decorated Crocs
As soon as she has finished decorating her Crocs, your daughter will want to put them on and show them off far and wide. Convince her to let the glue set and the paint dry for an entire day. If she can be patient just a little longer, the paint and glue will be much less likely to crack and peel. They may even last until she outgrows the Crocs.
