Toy Cake Designing Ideas

Doll cakes look like a girl in a fancy dress.

Doll cakes are the delight of birthday girls across the globe. The cake consists of a plastic fashion doll secured in the middle of a skirt-shaped cake. Frosting and edible decorations cover the doll cake for a fancy-looking treat. You can bake and carve a regular cake to form the doll skirt or you can buy a skirt-shaped cake pan created especially for doll cakes. Either way, the decoration possibilities for a doll cake are endless.

Glamorous-Gown Doll Cake

Thrill a future-fashionista birthday girl with a doll cake in a glamorous gown. Start with a skirt-shaped, chocolate dome cake. Style the doll's hair and insert the torso into the middle of the cake. Lightly cover the cake with buttercream frosting. While the frosting firms, roll out gold fondant and cut out enough tiny leaf shapes to create a vine trim on the skirt hem, waistline and neckline.

Apply a thin, jade green fondant strip to the doll bodice and trim to create a strapless, straight neckline. Apply the fondant to the cake skirt, trim the edges and smooth for a seamless look. Trim the skirt hem, waistline and neckline with the fondant leaves. Carefully cover the remaining skirt and bodice area with a scattered pattern of tiny, edible, gold cake beads. Use the beads and dots of icing to create dress straps over each shoulder.

Pink-Princess Doll Cake

Let your little princess know just how special she is with a pretty, pink, princess doll cake. Place a round, 9-inch strawberry cake on a cake plate and top it with vanilla frosting and a strawberry dome cake. Cover the cake with swirled pink frosting. Style the doll's hair and secure a little gold crown to her head. Insert the doll torso into the middle of the cake. Cover the doll with smooth pink frosting to create a sweetheart-neckline bodice.

After the basic doll cake frosting dries, you're ready to decorate. Use white frosting to create a thick "ruffle" along the bottom of the doll skirt. Create a thin white frosting ruffle along the bodice neckline. Scatter small, white frosting rosettes around the skirt. Scatter clear sprinkles across the skirt and bodice to create the appearance of beadwork.

Sweetheart Doll Cake

A sweetheart-themed doll cake is a sweet treat for a sweet girl. Insert a doll with styled hair into the center of a skirt-shaped, vanilla cake. Lightly cover the cake with buttercream frosting. Roll out yellow fondant and cover the doll with a sweetheart-neckline bodice. Cover the skirt with yellow fondant and smooth the pieces together. Use small pieces of fondant to create tiny, off-the-shoulder, puffed sleeves on each doll arm.

Decorate the skirt and bodice with small, heart-shaped pieces of fondant in white and pink. Wrap a thin piece of pink fondant around the doll's waist like a ribbon. Create a large, pink fondant bow in back. Use white icing to trim the skirt hem and bottom of each sleeve with a thin ruffle design.
