Glue a crocheted bow to a barrette for a cute hair ornament.
A crocheted bow adds handmade charm to the wrapping of a birthday gift for a girl of any age or dresses up a sweater with a whimsical, feminine touch. Glued to a barrette or sewn to a hair band, the loopy bows and spiral curls make a kitschy hair adornment. Sew them to a crocheted band and use them as anything from drapery tiebacks to napkin rings. A single skein of yarn is enough to work up a dozen or more of the dainty little bows, and the simple stitches make them an ideal project for a church bazaar or an after-school activity.
Instructions
1. Make a chain 33 chain stitches long.
2. Work one single crochet stitch in the 16th chain stitch from the hook and in the next two single crochet stitches. Slip stitch into the first chain stitch.
3. Work one single crochet in each chain stitch to the center of the bow. Work one single crochet stitch in the next single crochet stitch.
4. Work 16 chain stitches. Work three single crochet stitches in each chain stitch back to the center of the bow, allowing the stitches to spiral around the chain. Work one single crochet stitch in the next single crochet stitch. Make a second spiral curl to match. Work one single crochet in the next single crochet stitch.
5. Work one single crochet stitch in each chain stitch to the center of the bow.
6. Work one slip stitch in each single crochet stitch of the center and around the first half of the bow. Make two chain stitches. Bring the chain up over the center three stitches and the yarn under the center three stitches. Work a slip stitch into the first single crochet in the top of the second half of the bow and in each single crochet stitch back to the center. Break the yarn and pull it through the loop to end. Weave the yarn ends in to finish.
