Leprechauns are mythical creatures of Irish folklore and a symbol of mischief and good luck. Leprechaun Halloween costumes can be made from store-bought items as well as materials you may already have at home. Costumes can be as simple as wearing green clothing and hat, to making a full three-piece green suit with gold buckles and shamrocks.
Gather Your Materials
Collect articles of clothing for you to incorporate into your leprechaun costume. Although you can incorporate black and white into the leprechaun outfit, the predominant color should be green. To add contrast to the costume, incorporate multiple shades of green.
To add details to your costume, you should also gather glitter glue, gold and green sequins, green and yellow felt and a hot glue gun.
Embellish your Leprechaun Costume
Decorating your costume with Irish-themed symbols can enhance the overall effect of the costume. Placing gold buttons or oversized green buttons on a suit coat or gluing a shamrock to a lapel can add convincing accents to your costume.
Add Makeup
Apply green or gold makeup or face paint to your face and hands to enhance the elfish qualities of the costume. For additional realism, you can temporarily dye your hair red with colored hairspray.
Use Props
Incorporating the use of leprechaun-related props can add to the authenticity of the costume. A section of broomstick painted black can be used as a cane. Also, a plastic jack-o-lantern bucket spray painted black can be used as a pot of gold or as a container for candy.
