Directions for Tulle & Ribbon Bows
Tying a bow can be far trickier than you think, especially if you're shooting for something elegant and refined. It's easy to tie a bow, but to create one that looks professional takes a bit of effort. Fortunately, once you've mastered the art of tying a bow out of slippery ribbon or rough tulle, you'll be ready to tie many more in the future. No matter the occasion, this pretty, basic bow will fit your needs.
Prep
Cut the following lengths of ribbon or tulle from your 2.5 yards: one 3-inch piece, two 4-inch pieces, two 7-inch pieces and two 8-inch pieces. Then, cut the remaining ribbon in half and set the two pieces aside.
Glue
Fold each piece of ribbon in half (except for the 3-inch piece and two halves). To do so, bring one end of the ribbon to the other and glue the two ends together with a hot glue gun. For a tied look, scrunch the ends together before you glue. Repeat this until you have six loops.
Glue the two largest loops together (8-inch pieces) where their ends meet. This will create a single layered bow effect. Next, glue the second largest loops together (7-inch pieces) on top of the 8-inch pieces. Finally, glue the 4-inch pieces together on top of the other two layers.
Wrap Up
Wrap the 3-inch piece over the middle section of the bow. For the best look, glue one end of the ribbon down and then wrap the ribbon several times. To finish, glue the other end down.
Then, glue the two remaining pieces of ribbon behind the bow so they drape down (like the ends of a bow you would tie). This is optional, but it gives your bow a more realistic effect.
