Make Corker Hair Bows

Use different colored ribbons to create a colorful hair bow.

Korker hair bows are often worn by girls who participate in gymnastics or cheer. The actual korker ribbons are grosgrain ribbons formed into spiral curls; when they are made into bows, they take the shape of pompoms. Making the korker ribbon and hair bows is very easy and very inexpensive. All you need are a few different materials to create perfect spiral ribbons and adorable hair bows.

Instructions

1. Cut your ribbon so you have 30 ribbons that are 8 to 10 inches long. Although this is an easy project, you'll need 30 ribbons to make a single hair bow.

2. Place the first ribbon tail at the top of the first dowel. Clip a clothespin onto the dowel and over the ribbon to keep it in place. Wind the ribbon down the length of the dowel in a tight spiral curl. Use a second clothespin to clip over the ribbon and onto the dowel to hold it securely in place.

3. Repeat Step 2 with the remaining 29 ribbons on the remaining 29 dowels.

4. Turn your oven on to 275 degrees. To keep the ribbons in a permanent spiral, they need to be "baked."

5. Place all of your ribbon-dowels onto a cookie sheet, and place them into the oven. Leave them baking in the oven for 25-30 minutes.

6. Take the cookie sheet out when they're done, and allow the ribbons to cool for 20 minutes. When they're cooled, you can remove the clothespins and slide the dowels from the ribbon spirals.

7. Place an elastic cord or string into a small shoe box with the cord's ends hanging over the sides of the box.

8. Place all of the korker ribbons into the small box in an even, attractive stack. Doing this in the box will help ensure that the ribbons stay stacked on top of one another.

9. Tie the elasic cord around all of the ribbons. Tie the cord into a tight double-knot.

10. Slide the top side of an opened hair barrette through the elastic cord. Tie the cord into one more knot to ensure that it's secure.

11. Cut the tails off of the elastic cord so the remaining elastic is hidden by the ribbons.
