Make an Aisle Runner
Creating a monogram and design for an aisle runner dresses up your entire wedding ceremony. Incorporate other aspects of your wedding ceremony into the design by including a few lines from Scripture, by using a monogram from the wedding programs or by painting flowers matching those in your bouquet. Guests will notice the unique design and your creative talents.
Instructions
1. Create a monogram and design. Use PowerPoint to generate a monogram for your aisle runner. Insert a separate text box for each letter onto a slide. This makes the design easy to manipulate by changing the size or color of one letter at a time. Enlarge the design to fit the entire slide, leaving room for a slight margin. Consider duplicating the monogram from your invitations or thank-you notes onto the aisle runner. Other designs could include flowers, a passage from Scripture or a poem. Print the monogram as large as possible. Take it to a copy store to create a larger image for a minimal cost. Purchase acrylic paints and brushes for transfering the design onto the aisle runner.
2. Purchase material. Select the material that best suits your budget for the project. Try cotton muslin in the length and color you desire. Find this in the quilting section of most fabric stores. You can also buy a sturdy canvas-type fabric that doesn't wrinkle easily. This material can be expensive. Another option is to use a pre-made aisle runner from your local craft store. These have finished edges and are inexpensive. Purchasing material requires you to finish the edges by sewing, binding or tacking. Consider hiding the edges the day of the wedding with rose petals or tulle. Be creative, it could add a nice touch to your aisle runner.
3. Trace the monogram and paint. Place the monogram under the fabric and tape it down to hold it in place. Use a pencil to trace the monogram. Paint the monogram with selected colors. This process can take several hours.
4. Select an iron-on monogram. Buy individual letters and place them on your aisle runner. These come in smaller sizes, but it adds a nice touch to the end of an aisle runner. Select a color to match your wedding. Adding-iron on embroidered letters is a quick and easy way to dress up your aisle runner.
5. Put it together and roll it out. Use a cardboard tube at least 38 inches long. Try the round mailing tubes, placing the smooth edges on the outside. Put two or more together to make the tube your desired length. Keep them in place with tape. Tape one end of the aisle runner to the tube and roll the aisle runner on the tube. Feed ribbon through the tube and tie a knot to create a pull cord. Roll out the aisle runner the day of your wedding ceremony.
