Hair styles With Connected Braids

Intertwined braids can wrap around the back of the head.

Braids are no longer reserved just for little girls. Loose, messy braids are the hairstyling rage, according to a July 2011 article in "Marie Claire" that reviews braided hairstyling trends from fresh off the runway. To take the braid one step further, intertwined braids add more dimension, volume and design intricacy to the braided hairstyle. Intertwined braids combine two or more individual braids and can be accomplished on your own or by your professional hairstylist.

Three Into One Braid

A three-into-one braided hairstyle begins with braiding three individual sections of hair. One braid is made on the left side of the head, one in the back and one on the right side. To intertwine them, the three braids are then braided into one another to create an even larger, thicker braid down the center. The large braid is tied off at the end with a hairband, which can be disguised beneath a ribbon bow for a more youthful look.

Head Wrap

Two or more braids can be intertwined to create a head wrap either over the crown or behind the head. The hair is split into two sections: one for the left and one for the right. Each section is braided and secured with a hairband. The braids are lifted up over the head or brought around the back until they meet one another in the center, or past the center -- depending on how long the hair is. The braids are then secured with pins so that the two braids intertwine.

Partial Braided Updo

A formal hairstyle that involves braids is a partial braided updo. This hairstyle begins by taking two sections of hair on the upper portion of either side of the face and braiding each section. The majority of the hair hangs loose below the braids. The two braids are brought back until they meet and are intertwined down the back of the hair. The intertwined braid hangs down with the loose hair.

Braided Bun

Several individual braids can be intertwined around a large bun to add dimension and texture. After the bun is made in the hair, small, thin braids are made out of hair that is reserved outside of the bun. The braids tuck and fold into one another as they are woven in and out of the bun. Some of the braids may wrap around the bun, creating an intertwined frame.
