Crocheted hair accessories are fun and easy projects for both beginners and experienced crocheters. Even the most inexperienced crocheter can crochet a hair bow in less than an hour, making crocheted hair bows a great project for youth groups and beginner crochet classes.
Instructions
Filet Crochet Bow
1. With worsted weight yarn and size H hook, chain 47 stitches.
2. Single crochet in the second chain stitch from the hook and in each chain stitch to the end. Chain 5. Turn.
3. Skip 2 single crochet stitches, double crochet in the next single crochet stitch. Repeat to the end. Chain 5 and turn.
4. Skip the chain 2 space. Double crochet in the next double crochet stitch. **Chain 2, double crochet in the next double crochet stitch.** Repeat from ** to end, chain 2, double crochet in third chain of the turning chain. Chain 5 and turn.
5. Repeat last row to turning chain. Instead of chain 5, chain 1, turn. **Single crochet twice in the chain 2 space, single crochet in the double crochet.** Repeat from ** to end, single crochet in the third chain of turning chain. The piece should measure about 11 inches the long way and about 3 inches from top to bottom.
6. Fold the strip of fabric you have just crocheted in half the long way so that it measures about 5 1/2 inches by 3 inches. Line up the rows at each end and join them by slip stitching through both layers.Turn the seam to the inside. With the right side of bow the facing, slip stitch into two single crochet stitches to the right side of seam. Chain 2 and turn.
7. Single crochet in 4 single crochet stitches on the edge of the bow, making two single crochet stitches on either side of the seam. Chain 1 and turn.
8. Working in the back loop only, work on the 4 stitches for 5 inches. Break the yarn and pull it through loop, leaving a long tail for sewing.
9. Gather the center of the bow. Wrap the single crochet strip around the center and sew the ends together. If desired, soak bow in sugar water or starch and pin to a towel or padded board. Allow to dry. Glue bow to a barrette or comb.
