Aida cloth
is used for cross-stitch or hand embroidery projects.
Aida cloth is probably best known as the type of fabric used in cross-stitching because it is an even weave fabric with guide holes. One great thing about Aida cloth is that it can be combined with other fabrics to create many beautiful projects featuring your cross-stitching or hand embroidery.
Home Decoration
The most common place to find Aida cloth is in a cross-stitched wall hanging. Pattern books can be found that would fit most any d cor, or you could create your own patterns on graph paper. Because cross-stitching is such an old craft, there are many interesting books showcasing traditional patterns from all around the world.
One of the more interesting types of Aida cloth is the vinyl version, which would allow you to use yarn or small strips of fabric to create your own place mats. If you are really ambitious, you can use the larger format Aida cloth to create your own custom upholstery for dining room chairs. Because Aida cloth comes in so many different colors, it is easy to coordinate with your home's color scheme.
Apparel
There are many different types of pre-made Aida cloth apparel items. You can find everything from baby shoes to bonnets that already have an Aida cloth insert for you to customize with your pre-chosen cross-stitch design. One of the easiest gifts to make with Aida cloth is a baby bib. Using just a small piece of Aida cloth and some colorful binding, you can make a quick bib that is then personalized with your cross-stitched design. If you want to stitch a design on a fabric that does not already have an Aida cloth insert, you can use Aida "waste canvas," a loosely woven version of Aida cloth which can be pinned to any fabric. After you stitch your design, you carefully remove the Aida pieces one at a time until just your design remains.
Gifts
If you are taking part in the resurgence of canning, you can use Aida cloth to cross stitch perfect "labels" for your jams, jellies, and other canned creations. For the book lovers in your life, you can cut wide strips of Aida cloth and finish them with either lace or other trims and finish them with a book-themed stitch design. Tea towels are another nice gift to which you can add your personalized touches. You can usually find tea towels with an Aida cloth insert or use waste canvas to add monograms, proverbs or accents to your towels.
Accessories
Strips of Aida cloth can be cross-stitched and fashioned into bows for the little girls in your life. Finish edges with fray check to keep the Aida cloth neat, or allow room for a natural fray to occur and give your bow an "edge." You can also add Aida cloth to your favorite bag patterns for an extra special homemade touch. If the cutting and pasting of the Aida cloth seems too daunting, simply use Aida cloth yardage to cut out the entire bag.
