Create A Cheap Wedding Veil

You can save money on your veil by making it yourself.

Wedding veils can be very expensive for something you will never wear again. With some fabric and basic sewing skills, you can personalize your veil especially for you and at a fraction of the cost. All the materials that you need for your cheap wedding veil can be purchased at your local craft or fabric store. Look beautiful on your wedding day and use the money you saved on your veil for other wedding day expenses.

Instructions

1. Decide how long you want your wedding veil to be. Consider the style of your dress when making this decision. Also decide which color tulle, which is a lightweight netting, will best match your dress. You can also purchase tulle with sparkles and other embellishments.

2. Purchase enough tulle at your local craft or fabric store to make your veil. Buy a little extra tulle just to be safe. You might need as little as 1 yard of tulle, which can cost only a few dollars.

3. Decide on the type of hair piece you want to wear on your wedding day, such as a hair comb, barrette or tiara. You can find plain gold or silver hair pieces at your craft or fabric store at inexpensive prices.

4. Hold up the tulle to the place on your head where you plan on wearing your hair piece. Decide on the exact length of your veil. Have a friend help you mark the length with a pencil or pin.

5. Add a few inches to the exact length of your veil and carefully cut the tulle. To get a straighter edge, use a rotary tool and cutting mat. If you don't like the way the trimmed edges look, you can use ribbon or other fabric as edging to give the ends of your veil a more distinct finish.

6. Gather the top of the tulle to the width of your head piece. Carefully sew the tulle to your barrette, comb or other hairpiece with sturdy thread. Be sure the tulle is lying the way you want it to as you sew it down and that the thread blends in.

7. Give the veil a more airy look by rounding the corners of the tulle before adhering it to your headpiece. Another technique for a fuller-looking veil is to loosely sew the tulle with an over, under, over, under stitch and pull the remaining string at the end to gather the tulle. After gathering the tulle, it can then be sewn or glued, with fabric glue, to your barrette or comb.

8. Try on the veil several times during the process to ensure the finished product will be what you want.
