Having uniforms is one of the best ways to feel unity among a team. In sports, it's normally a requirement for girls to keep their hair in ponytails as a safety precaution. To continue that feeling of unity (and to look cute), get every girl the same hair ties and ribbons for their hair. They will be adorable and look in full uniform.
Hair Ribbons
Always purchase the ribbon in the same color as the uniform, and make sure there is enough ribbon for every girl on the team. You don't want anyone to feel left out. The best places to go for great ribbon are crafts and hobbies store. They will give a large selection of different types of ribbon as well as different shades of colors. If the team colors are red, silver, gold, green or even blue, the best time to go is right after Christmas. There will be huge sales on tons of different ribbons (nice ribbon can be pricey). You can get enough ribbon for the season and a few seasons after.
You will also need to purchase hair ties for the ponytails. The best hair ties to purchase are ones that say "ouchless" on them. They do not have the metal strip that holds the elastic band together--those hair ties with the metal strip can snag hair. Make sure the hair ties are as close to the color of ribbon as possible.
When making the ribbon, it's easiest to simply loop the ribbon through the hair tie and tie in a knot so it stays in place. Have the girl put her hair into a ponytail using the hair tie with the ribbon. When the hair is secure in the tie, rotate the tie so that the ribbon knot is directly on top of the ponytail. Then, pull the ribbon down the sides of the ponytail, crisscross at the bottom and back of the sides. Tie in an adorable bow at the top. This way, the ribbon will around the ponytail, but it will be secure by the knot already made on the hair tie.
What Not to Use
Never use ribbon with an excess of sparkles. Although they look cute, the sparkles can go into the eyes of the players, causing irritation. Also, never use ribbon with wire. Some ribbons are just the fabric ribbons, whereas others have wires going through either side of the ribbon. This is great for gift wrapping or making bows because the wire helps the ribbon hold the perfect bow shape. However, the wire can poke through the bottom of the ribbon and can cut the girls as they play. Especially in a contact sport like soccer, precautions need to be taken to make sure everyone on both teams are safe.
