Make Cheerleading Arrangements in a Pop Warner League
1. Fill out an information sheet to set up a cheerleading squad in your local league. The League Spirit Information Sheet requires information on each team member as well as details about summer camp attendance and interest in the national championships (see Resources below).
2. Gauge interest by speaking with parents in your community. You may find there is great local interest in Pop Warner cheerleading among your child's friends and classmates. You might also learn about existing cheerleading leagues in the area.
3. Consult with the local Pop Warner league to assign your squad to a football team. There is often a need for cheerleading squads to merge with others in order to match up numbers with the football teams. Association with a particular team helps when choosing uniforms and organizing car pool schedules.
4. Create a roster of squad members for use during the sign-up process. This roster should contain updated contact information and notes about allergies to give to coaches.
5. Review the practice and game availability of each cheerleading team member. If there are members who will miss games on a regular basis, you should find alternates and develop contingency plans for these situations.
6. Remind your child and her friends about the importance of strong grades while they participate in cheerleading. Local Pop Warner leagues focus as much on character and sportsmanship as they do on athleticism and skill.
