Cheerleaders will don their team colors, and even use matching cheer bows, to show their commitment to the team and their love of the sport. A cheer bow is a hair accessory that is able to stay in place, even when the cheerleader is tumbling or moving quickly. It is not only important to tie the bow properly, but also to attach it to a clip so that the bow can be flashy and stay secure while it is being worn.
Instructions
1. Cut a strip of 1-inch wide ribbon to measure 14 inches, using a pair of scissors. The ribbon should be a team color.
2. Pinch the ribbon in the middle between your thumb and forefinger.
3. Create a loop with the ribbon about midway through. Wrap the length of ribbon around the loop, like you would with a traditional bow, using your fingers to hold open a space for it.
4. Pull the piece of ribbon you wrapped around the first loop through the opening you created to make a two-looped bow. Pull the loops to tighten the bow and adjust their size to your liking.
5. Trim the ribbon tails if they are uneven or if you'd like to shorten them.
6. Wrap a 1-inch long piece of the same ribbon around the middle of the bow to further hold it together. Add a dollop of hot glue to the ribbon to secure, pinching it with tweezers so that you don't burn your finger. Allow the glue to dry until it is cool to the touch, about five minutes.
7. Hot glue the ribbon to a metal barrette. Allow the glue to dry completely, another five minutes, before wearing the bow. The barrette can be clamped in front of the cheerleader's ponytail into the hair directly, or on the hair elastic that is holding the ponytail.
