Decorated ponytail holders are fun accessories that can be expensive. Make your own to save money and customize the colors and ribbons. Choose colors in school or team colors. Theme the ponytail holders to special events like parades or cheer camps. Match ribbons to favorite outfits or for holidays.
Instructions
1. Cut the ribbons to a length of approximately 16 inches. Place the 3-inch ribbon face up and add a dab of hot glue to the center. Take the 2 1/2-inch ribbon and push it into the hot glue. Add a dab of hot glue to that ribbon and add the 1 1/-inch ribbon.
2. Use a hot glue gun to secure the ribbons to one another and around the ponytail holder.
Cut a small piece of the 1 1/2-inch ribbon and lay it face down on the table. Lay the longer grouping of ribbons face down so they cross the 1 1/2-inch ribbon. Put a dab of hot glue in the middle of the longer ribbons and push one ponytail holder into the glue so the ribbons are glued to the elastic band.
3. Fold the 1 1/2-inch ribbon in half so it covers the ponytail holder and glue it to the other ribbon. Repeat with the other side so the 1 1/2-inch ribbon wraps around the longer ribbons and the ponytail holder and is glued together.
4. Slightly melt the edges of the ribbons to prevent fraying.
Trim the edges of the ribbons so each layer is slightly shorter than the layer below it. Light the lighter and quickly run the cut edges of the ribbon through the flame so the edge of the ribbon melts. This stops the ribbons from fraying or unraveling.
