Create A Roman Goddess Costume

Creating a Roman goddess costume, whether for a toga party or basic Halloween costume is inexpensive and easy to do. This variation on a classic toga is attractive without showing to much skin, making it appropriate for women of all ages. When purchasing the fabric, look for a mid-weight cotton as lighter fabrics may fly up and heavier weights won't be as comfortable. Go for basic white cotton for a classic Roman look, or opt for bright colors like red or orange to suit whichever goddess you want to be.

Instructions

1. Place one corner of the fabric under your arm so that the width of the fabric runs from your underarm to approximately knee-length.

2. Wrap the fabric around your body from front to back to create a tube dress. Repeat this step so there are two layers of fabric covering your body.

3. Hold the remaining fabric in front of your waist and twist it into a rope shape.

4. Wrap the fabric "rope" around your waist two times to create a belt.

5. Take the extra fabric in your hand and wrap it around one side of your neck, then bring it down on the other side of your neck so it is in front of you again. Loop the remaining fabric under and over the belted fabric to secure.

6. Wrap any remaining fabric around your waist and tuck it into the belted area at your back for a finished look.

7. Put on gladiator sandals and add any additional Roman goddess accessories like a gold headband, gold rings, bracelets or earrings. Consider adding goddess-specific accessories like a toy bow and arrow for Athena, goddess of the hunt, or a heart-shaped pillow or candies for Aphrodite, goddess of love.
