Create A Tutu Bow Holder

A tutu bow holder provides a place for little girls to put their hair bows.

A bow holder is a functional piece of furniture that is used to hold a girl's collection of hair bows by providing a location for the bows to clip or hang. As most little girls love ballerinas and tutus, it is a simple process to turn the functional item of a bow holder into a decorative one as well. A tutu bow holder is simple to make, but there are several materials and tools required to give the bow holder a professional appearance. Allow one full day to make the tutu bow holder.

Instructions

1. Draw the outline of a bodice onto a piece of butcher paper. The hips and top of the torso should be about the same size, unless you want to draw a little girl's torso. A little girl's torso should be a little wider at the hips, but not by much. Make the bodice about 18 inches long and 8 inches wide.

2. Draw the outline of the bodice onto the foam or plywood. Cut out the bodice with a coping saw or miter saw. Wear safety glasses when operating the saw.

3. Cut two pieces of fabric using the paper pattern. Spray the bodice with spray adhesive, and then lay the fabric over the board and smooth any wrinkles with your hands.

4. Cut 5 or 6 layers of tulle equaling about 2 inches longer than the width of the bodice's hips. Glue each layer of tulle to the hips of the bodice with hot glue. Wrap the edges of the tulle around the back of the bodice and glue into place.

5. Make four small bows from the ribbon. Hot glue the bows to the top of the tulle, hiding the top edge of the skirt.

6. Staple two loops of ribbon to the back of the shoulders of the bodice. Glue two more ribbons to the bodice's shoulders.

7. Cut the bottom off a plastic hanger. Slide the edges of the hanger through the loops on the top of the bodice. Cut off any hanger that sticks out from the shoulders. Wrap the hanger in narrow ribbon, adding a dot of glue to hold the ribbon in place every eight or 10 wraps. Glue the hanger inside the ribbon loops.
