Hair bows are a timeless accessory that can be created in your own home.
Satin, polka dots or stripes, pastel or bright neon colors are just a few patterns and types of ribbon you can use when crafting your own hair bows. Use scrap ribbon or themed styles for holidays or special occasions, available for purchase at any craft store. A moderately simple craft, bows can be an accessory for all ages to place in hair for a cute updo, half-back hairdo or glam up ponytails or pigtails.
Instructions
1. Plug in a hot glue gun to preheat and lay a piece of newspaper down on a flat work surface.
2. Measure out 10 inches of ribbon with a ruler and cut at an angle on both edges. Cross the ribbon's ends leaving about one inch for each tail or end. Place a small dab of hot glue between where the two ends meet to form an "x." This will hold the "x" in place. You will now have a loop at the top and an "x" at the bottom.
3. Place a dab of hot glue on the top of the "x" where you have just glued the two sides together. Then, push the loop down onto the "x" to form two sides; you want to push from the center of the loop so the sides of your bow are even. Press together for a moment to let the glue set.
4. Place a dab of glue in the center of the bow where the knot would be, and glue a jeweled bead with a flat back to the middle of the bow. Press the jeweled piece into the glue using equal pressure on both sides. Let harden for a few moments.
5. Turn your bow over so the back is facing you. Run a thin line of glue horizontally across the back side of the bow, then press the top of a small metal clip or plastic barrette into the glue. Lay on work surface to dry for one minute.
