Hair bows can add a touch of color and festivity to a young lady's outfit. The loop hair bow may look complicated but the technique is not complex. It calls for a few twists and turns of a long piece of ribbon, which you can complete in a few minutes. Experiment with different loop sizes, ribbon designs and color combinations to create eye-catching loop hair bows that you can add to your collection or give as gifts.
Instructions
1. Pull some ribbon off a spool but do not cut. Hold the ribbon between two fingers at a point 4 inches away from the end. This is the center of the hair bow.
2. Form a loop past the center of the bow. Make it as small or as large as you wish. Bring the end of the loop to the back of the ribbon center and secure it between your fingers.
3. Pass the ribbon under the center of the bow and form a second loop across from the first. Bring the end of the loop to the top of the bow center and secure it between your fingers.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to make additional loops for the hair bow. Make the bow as sparse or as full as you wish.
5. Cut the ribbon from the spool when you have finished creating loops. Leave a tail of about 5 inches at the end of the last loop. Arrange the loops until you are satisfied with the appearance of the bow then pin the center to secure them.
6. Sew a few running stitches at the center of the loop to secure the loops. Use a thread and needle. Sew over the first stitch to secure the thread.
7. Pull the thread to bring the loops close together. Sew over the last stitch twice and cut the thread. Sew a button to the center of the bow or sew a strip of ribbon around it to hide the stitches and make the bow more decorative.
8. Cut a small circle of felt that is just big enough to hide the stitches at the back of the bow. Attach it to the back of the hair bow with hot glue. Glue the top of a barrette or hair clip to the other side of the felt circle to complete the loop hair bow.
