Make Bows For Infants & Small children

Create custom bow clips for your toddler.

Adorn your infant or toddler's hair with some simple hair bows. Commonly, infants and toddlers have fine, thin hair, which poses issues for keeping hair accessories in the hair. One method to combat this is to make lightweight bows and to use alligator clips. With a few craft materials and supplies, you can create a hair bow for your young daughter to match every ensemble.

Instructions

1. Cut your 8 3/4-inch piece of ribbon that is 3/8 of an inch wide into three pieces: one 4-inch piece, one 3-inch piece and the remaining piece is 1 3/4-inches long.

2. Wave each end of each piece of ribbon over the flame of a candle lighter to heat-seal the ends and prevent ribbon fraying. Do not hold the ribbon over the flame for any period of time -- it may catch fire or brown and have a burnt appearance.

3. Squeeze the end of an alligator clip to open the prongs and insert one end of the 4-inch piece of ribbon, centered on the clip bottom. Hold the clip so the flat side is facing down.

4. Squeeze a string of hot glue over the top prong of the alligator clip and fold the ribbon over top of that prong to adhere the ribbon to the clip. Ensure that you press firmly to rid the ribbon of any glue bumps and allow the glue to flow through long hole in the clip and onto the ribbon underneath.

5. Turn the clip over and place a bead of glue on the squeezable section of the clip and fold the remaining end of the 4-inch ribbon over the squeeze part of the clip and adhere it to the flat section.

6. Form the 3-inch piece of ribbon into a ring and glue the ends together. Glue the ribbon ring seam to the top of the ribbon on the alligator clip's prong. Place another bead of glue on the inside of the circle, over the alligator clip, and press the top section of the circle onto it to create a bow form.

7. Squeeze the end of the alligator clip to open it, have your 1 3/4-inch ribbon section handy, squirt a bead of glue on the ribbon inside the alligator clip and stick one end of the small ribbon piece to it. Allow the glue to cool and dry before closing the clip.

8. Place another bead of hot glue on top of the end of the short piece, on the inside of the clip, and quickly wrap the ribbon around the top of the clip and back through the opening onto the bead of glue. This secures the ribbon form onto the clip.
