Use ribbon and fabric to make a Minnie Mouse clippie.
Instead of spending your hard-earned money on an over-priced hair bow at a boutique, make your own for little money out of pocket. Making your own hair bow gives you control of the exact colors and design to match any given outfit, as well. For example, create a Minnie Mouse bow to match your daughter's favorite Minnie Mouse T-shirt or as an accessory for a solid-colored dress. Using an alligator clip, ribbon and fabric, make your own Minnie Mouse hair clippie for little effort.
Instructions
1. Fold a piece of fabric in half. Draw a 1-inch Minnie Mouse head shape on one side of fabric. If you have trouble free hand drawing the head, print out an image from the Internet and use it as a template. Cut out the head shape, so that you have two identical mouse heads.
2. Trace the cutout's shape on a piece of cotton batting. Cut out the batting, cutting it 1/4 inch smaller than the drawn shape.
3. Place the batting between the two cutout pieces off fabric with the side of the fabric you want to see facing outward. Use a straight stitch on your sewing machine to stitch a 1/4-inch hem around the outside of the two pieces of fabric with the batting sandwiched in between.
4. Attach a 1/2-inch bow to the right ear of the Minnie head. Either tie a 1/8-by-2-inch ribbon into a bow or use a small bow from the notions department at the craft store.
5. Cut a 1/4-inch wide ribbon into a 4-1/2 inch long piece. Pass the ends of the ribbon through the flame of a lighter or candle to melt the ends. This keeps it from fraying.
6. Hold a small alligator clip in one hand with the flat arm down and the angled arm up. Squeeze the clip to open it using the pinch clip end. Apply hot glue to the inside of the angled arm. Press the backside of the ribbon from the previous step against the hot glue line, lining one of the cut ends up with edge of the arm next to the spring. Stop squeezing the clip and let it sit for a minute to cool and set.
7. Apply hot glue to the top of the angled arm from end-to-end. Fold the ribbon at the point of the angled arm and bring it overtop, pressing it into the hot glue. Let it sit for a minute to set.
8. Apply hot glue to the bottom of the pinch clip of the straight arm. Bring the ribbon from the angled arm over the pinch clip and press it into the hot glue. Let it sit for a minute.
9. Attach the Minnie head to the ribbon-covered clip using hot glue, positioning it on the end with the pinch clip. Let the glue sit for 3 to 5 minutes before using.
