Ribbons can be used for a variety of crafts and embellishments.
Ribbons come in several varieties, including silk, cord and cotton. Ribbons are extremely versatile, ranging in use from hair bows to scrapbook accents to belts to trim on clothing. Ribbons are relatively inexpensive to purchase and can be sewn, glued or worn as is. The following are a few ideas about use ribbons in crafting.
Using Ribbons in Scrapbooks
Scrapbooks can be personalized by tying a ribbon into a bow and gluing or clipping it to a page as an accent. Ribbons can be used to add flair to photos in a scrapbook when they are stapled around the photo as a matte or a border. For a more three-dimensional border, small bits of ribbon can be tied to a longer ribbon to frame an entire page. Alternatively, a picture frame can be made with ribbons by tying them onto a slide holder. Photos also can be embellished by placing ribbons diagonally across the corners. A ribbon can also be used to add a title to a page by stamping words or phrases on it and gluing it onto the page.
Using Ribbons in Crafting
There are many ways to use ribbons in crafting projects. For example, the top of a gift box can be edged with a ribbon or with small bows simply be gluing the ribbon or bows along the edge. This trick can also be used with gift bag handles or along the top of the gift bag by weaving the ribbon through buttonholes and attaching it with a hot glue gun. Bookmarks can be made out of ribbon by spraying the ribbon with a fabric stiffener. A ribbon wound around a mug handle and filled with candy or notes makes a wonderful gift for someone special.
Using Ribbons to Decorate your Home
When looking for unique ways to decorate in the home, adding ribbons can be the perfect choice. Tying a wide ribbon to a bathroom towel rack creates a holder for barrettes and bobby pins. Larger ribbons can be used as valances over kitchen or bathroom windows. For a cute country look, ribbons can be tied around the tops of jars, candle holders or flower pots. If you have an old frame that's falling apart, wrap a ribbon around it to make it look brand new. Spruce up plain dishtowels or sheets by sewing on multi-color ribbons. Ribbons tied around napkin holders create a cute accent.
Using Ribbons on Clothing or Accessories
Accessories in a room or bathroom (such as hangers, zipper pulls or drawer handles) can be personalized with the addition of ribbons. A bow tied onto a safety pin makes a cute, quick accessory. Ribbons can be used as hair bows, headbands, belts or a scarf. They can be used to create unique watch bands. A pendant or ring attached to a ribbon and tied in a loop makes a personalized necklace. Ribbons can add that personal touch when sewed onto pant legs, shoes, shirts or any other item of clothing.
