A nice bow lies parallel to the ribbon.
Shoe laces tie easily into a neat horizontal bow, but ribbon bows often sit at a funny angle. The bow in your daughter's sash sticks straight up her back and the bows on your gifts are at an angle to the ribbon. There are a few simple tricks to tying a bow with smooth even loops that lies evenly along the ribbon.
Instructions
1. Cut a length of ribbon long enough to wrap around the box plus about two extra feet.
2. Wrap the ribbon around the bottom of the box so that the ribbon sticks up on either side. The ribbon on the right side should be 1 inch longer than the ribbon on the left side.
3. Bring the ribbons to the center of the box and wrap the left side of the ribbon behind the right side of the ribbon making a knot. The ribbon coming from the right side of the box will stick up above the knot and point to the left. The other side will be below the knot and point to the right. .
4. Fold the lower ribbon to the left side of the knot and make a 4-inch loop by folding the ribbon back to the right, 4-inches from the knot.
5. Wrap the ribbon that sticks up above the knot down over this loop. Fold this ribbon up 4 inches below the knot.
6. Stick the folded edge under the first loop you made, and pull it under the loop and over the knot as if you were tying your shoe.
7. Pull the fold out and to the right to make the second loop of the bow. Pull the two loops until they are even. If you are using wired ribbon, open the loops a bit to make a fuller bow.
8. Trim the ends of the ribbon at an angle.
