Thirty years later, Cyndi Lauper is still rocking big hair.
By the looks of the leggings, over-sized and off-the-shoulder sweatshirts, blazers-and-jeans ensembles, neon colors and big shoulder pads showing up in closets across the country, it certainly seems that the '80s are in full swing...again. Big 80's hair is also back and popular -- only with fewer bad perms. Whether you have fine, thin hair or voluminous curls, you can easily create a hairstyle reminiscent of Cyndi Lauper, circa 1983.
Instructions
1. Curl your hair slightly using a one-inch barrel curling iron. Clamp the bottom of a small section of hair with the iron's barrel. Holding the curling iron horizontally, wrap the curling iron up the length of the hair. Hold the iron in your hair for three seconds, then release. Blessed with natural curls? Skip to Step 3.
2. Continue to curl small portions of your hair to create more volume and texture.
3. Spray your entire head with an extra-hold aerosol hairspray. Finger comb your hair to loosen the curls slightly.
4. Separate a three-inch section of hair at the very top of your head using the tail of the rat tail comb. Comb this section of hair straight up, spraying the roots of this section with the hair spray.
5. Back comb this section of hair by pulling the comb through the bottom four inches of hair, toward the root. This will scrunch down the hair, creating a nest-like layer of back-combed hair. Spray another layer of hair spray through the back and front of this section of hair, focusing on the ratted area.
6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 working down the back of you head, just past the crown. For added volume, you can also back-comb the hair just above your ears.
7. Spray a generous amount of aerosol hairspray throughout your entire hair once it has been thoroughly back combed.
8. Comb the hair on the top of your head back to hide the visible ratted roots and to complete the voluminous look from the 80s. Use more hairspray to ensure the look will last you all the way until your next shower.
